Biological Nitrogen Fixation - The advantages
Global Technological revolution and today's scientific evolutions have enabled a better understanding of biology, which has lead to the harnessing of nature in TwinN bringing Nitrogen fixation into a commercially viable form. This format introduces a real alternative for Famers and all Primary producers in the quest for a reduction in the usage of chemical Nitrogen. TwinN producing a natural nitrogen "BNF" can form part of the integral approach to land sustainability and profitability in today's challenging and changing approach to farming.as a whole.
What is TwinN ?
TwinN is a combination of scientifically selected endophytic and soil borne bacteria. It is an inocullum which will enable crops to produce their own nitrogen, in a similar way to legumes. The ability of crops to produce their own Nitrogen is:- termed broadly as Biological Nitrogen Fixation "BNF".
Why /TwinN?
TwinN enables a reduction in the use of chemical nitrogen fertilizers, as well as produce plant growth factors which mimic auxins natural plants hormones and stimulate root development. (Mechanism of Action on Information page). Crops require some form of Nitrogen for growth. In traditional cropping, synthetic N can be reduced, and in organic farming TwinN gives the grower an opportunity of supplying N to crops which has been a major obstacle facing organic growers. The desire to seek natural alternatives, has enabled the discovery and development of technology to bring about a protocol to assist in achieving this.
Why look at Biological Nitrogen Fixation - BNF?
Growers are becoming aware of the need to change and wish to become more environmentally friendly adept, and will either voluntarily seek a means to change, or through current Global trends will find themselves facing gradual pressure through global awareness and demand for change, or enforced legislation.
What are the features of TwinN?
- TwinN enables the plant to produce Nitrogen as required by the plant.
- TwinN assists in improving soil structure
- Quantifiable cost savings
- Ease of handling and application
- Plays a part in the endeavours of Growers wishing to improve sustainability and landcare
- Enables the reduction in application of synthetic N
What are the key factors required for application?
- Avoid drying out the microbes during application, conditions required include a healthy growing crop, moist soil, dews, and high humidity. Please go to the Information page to Application Information for more details.
- TwinN are live microbes and as such Equipment being used for application will need to be cleaned thoroughly prior to application, this can be dependant upon the previous chemicals or fertilizers applied. Please go to information page Application Procedures for more information.
TwinN and the future.
- TwinN has a bright future and Improved Application procedures are being investigated with the use of products to reduce the dependance upon moisture for application.
